Anti-inflammatory stick balm recipe

Yields: 1 KIIMA mold (2 refills)

Ingredients

Oils and butters

  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml or 9 g) sunflower wax
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml or 24 g) refined shea butter
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml or 35 g) arnica oil infusion

Powders

  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml or 8 g) arrowroot starch or corn starch (optional)*

Essential oils

  • 30 drops (1.1 g) wintergreen essential oil (Gaultheria fragrantissima)**

*Arrowroot is an optional ingredient in this recipe but helps make the balm drier upon application.
**Wintergreen essential oil is not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding, for children under 7 years old, or individuals on anticoagulant therapy or allergic to aspirin.

Instructions

Melt the oils and butters

  1. Place the sunflower wax, shea butter, and arnica oil infusion into a heat-resistant container, like a Mason jar.
  2. Put the Mason jar in a small pot and fill the pot with water until the water level slightly exceeds the ingredients in the jar.
  3. Heat over low until everything is melted.

Add the powders and essential oils

  1. Turn off the heat. Leave the Mason jar in the warm water, then add the arrowroot starch and wintergreen essential oil. Mix well.

Storage

  1. Pour into molds and allow to solidify for a few hours.
  2. Once the refills are solid, insert them into the KIIMA rechargeable applicator. It’s ready to use!
  3. Apply to the skin where muscles feel sore or tense, or on joints. Massage in as needed.
