Creating your own natural deodorant can be a rewarding and empowering experience. Whether you prefer to call it homemade, handmade, handcrafted, or DIY, making your deodorant offers a healthier, chemical-free, and organic alternative to commercial options.

While many are familiar with homemade deodorant recipes, let's explore how to personalize your own natural deodorant. Each formula can vary, catering to different skin types and preferences.

 

Firstly, gather the fats for your DIY deodorant.

Mix and match coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax, cocoa butter, mango butter, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, and hemp seed oil. These fats moisturize the skin and help the deodorant stick together and glide smoothly onto the skin. Additionally, many possess natural antibacterial properties to combat odor-causing bacteria.

 

After melting your fats, add your chosen powder.

Each powder has unique properties:

  • Arrowroot Powder: Absorbs moisture and provides a silky texture.
  • Baking Soda: Neutralizes odor and absorbs moisture. Caution: May cause irritation for sensitive skin.
  • Cornstarch: Soothes the skin and absorbs moisture.
  • Kaolin Clay and Bentonite Clay: Absorb moisture, toxins, and impurities while detoxifying the skin.
  • Activated Charcoal: Absorbs toxins and odors, providing a deep cleanse.
  • Magnesium Hydroxide and Zinc Oxide: Absorb moisture, neutralize odors, and offer antibacterial properties.

 

Time for essential oils!

When selecting them, you have two options: choose based on their benefits or their scents. However, both attributes can complement each other perfectly!

For their benefits:

  • Tea Tree: Renowned for its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.
  • Lavender: Offers antibacterial properties and features a soothing aroma, ideal for calming the skin.
  • Lemon and cedarwood: Possess antimicrobial properties, aiding in combating bacteria.

  • Eucalyptus, rosemary and bergamot: Known for their antibacterial properties, enhancing the defense against bacteria.
